INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS China Investment Corporation ('CIC') has reportedly earmarked US$2 billion for three funds in order to seek opportunities in US distressed assets, according to Reuters. Two separate funds to be managed by Goldman Sachs and Oaktree Capital Management L.P. could be the recipients of allocations from CIC. (People's Republic of China) China Investment Corporation ('CIC') has invested US$939 million in JSC KazMunaiGas Exploration Production, the second largest oil producer in Kazakhstan. The investment in this Central Asia's oil company came a week after CIC had deployed an aggregate US$2.75 billion to two Southeast-Asia companies that are in the commodity sector, the Singapore-listed Noble Group, and PT Bumi Resources Tbk which is listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange. The Beijing Private Equity Investment & Development Fund Management Co., Ltd. is to manage China's first fund of funds that is sponsored by state-owned organisations. The fund has a target size of Rmb10 billion (US$1.5 billion). China Development Bank Corporation and National Council for Social Security Fund are expected to invest in this fund of funds. (People's Republic of China) Temasek Holdings ('Temasek') has subscribed to US$100 million worth of convertible bonds issued by Olam International Ltd. ('Olam'). This is the second round of financing provided by Temasek to Olam during this year. In June, the investor had pledged S$437.5 million (US$302.9 million) to Olam. (Singapore) FUNDS
IndiaCo Ventures Limited, a fund management firm listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, has announced the launch of India Growth Opportunities Fund with a target size of US$500 million. (India) Everbright Securities Co., Ltd, the Shanghai-listed subsidiary of China Everbright Group, announced its blueprint to set up an industrial fund that will focus on a green environment. The fund management firm shall be sponsored by Shanghai Pudong Science and Technology Investment Co., Ltd., and the Shenergy Group.(People's Republic of China) Leopard Capital, LP announced its plans to launch a Sri Lanka fund. No fund size was disclosed. Earlier, Singapore-based Calamander Group launched the Sri Lanka Private Equity Fund. (India) INVESTMENTS
PearlStreet Ltd. ('PearlStreet') accepts an A$23.4 million (US$20.3 million) from Catalyst Investment Managers Pty Ltd. Upon completion of this capital injection, Catalyst will hold a minimum of a 46% stake in PearlStreet which provides services to companies in the energy sector. (Australia)
The US-based Global Environment Fund has agreed to purchase US$46.3 million of preference shares issued by Greenko Group plc which had earlier received funds from the UK-based Aloe Private Equity. (India)
Argonaut Ventures LLC has purchased 184.8 million rupees (US$3.8 million) worth of equity shares in Shriram EPC Ltd. ('Shriram EPC'). Shriram EPC had earlier enlisted Bessemer Venture Partners, New Vernon Capital LLC and UTI Ventures as its investors. (India) SBI Capital Co., Ltd. has launched a tender offer to buy the remaining stake it does not own in Narumiya International Co., Ltd. The transaction will command a ¥1.8 billion (US$20.5 million) price tag.The target company is engaged in manufacturing, processing and the sale of children's wear and related products via original and licensed brands. (Japan) A party of domestic venture capital firms, including Wuhan Silicon Paradise Sunshine Venture Investment Co., Ltd and Hubei Kehua Yinsai Venture Investment Co., Ltd. have committed an undisclosed amount to Wuhan Haibo Heavy Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. (People's Republic of China) Sina Corp. is selling 5.6 million ordinary shares to its chief executive and a party of private equity investors, for US$180 million. CITIC Capital Partners Management Ltd. and FountainVest Partners (Asia) Ltd. are believed to be party to the purchase of this parcel of shares. (People's Republic of China) Standard Chartered Private Equity Ltd. and L Capital Asia LLC are among the party of investors that are bidding to take control of the Sincere Holdings Ltd. ('Sincere'). The latter became a subsidiary of Peace Mark which had earlier pledged Sincere as the collateral to three banks. (Singapore) DIVESTMENTS
SAIF Partners has sold all of its holdings in Mindtree Consulting Ltd. and is estimated to have returned 967.6 million rupees (US$20 million) to its coffers. (India) Peak Sport Products Co., Ltd., a Fujian-based sports apparel manufacturer, made its debut on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong on 29th September. It is backed by Sequoia Capital China, CCB International Asset Management Ltd. and Legend Capital. (People's Republic of China) Hunan Boyun New Materials Co., Ltd. ('Hunan Boyun'), backed by Cowincapital Co., Ltd., was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on 29th September. On its first day of trading, its share price surged by 104%.Hunan Boyun is an industrial powder material producer. (People's Republic of China) Vtion Wireless Technology AG ('Vtion'), a mobile data-card manufacturer in China, was listed on the Frankfurt Exchange and became the first Chinese company that made a debut on the Deutschland bourse since mid 2008. Vtion counts Shenzhen Capital Group and China-Israel Value Capital as investors. (People's Republic of China) |
