Oceanus Group Ltd., backed by AIF Capital Ltd. and Hupomone Capital Partners Pte., Ltd., issued its Taiwan Depository Receipts and raised NT$1.9 billion (US$58.8 million) on the Taiwan Stock Exchange on the last day of 2009. (People's Republic of China)
INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS
The state-run Korea Development Bank ('KDB') will acquire a controlling stake in Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. from Kumho Asiana Group ('Kumho') for US$2.5 billion. Concurrently, KDB and Consus Asset Management will jointly buy Kumho Life Insurance from the debt-laden Kumho. (South Korea)

Huiou (Chongqing) Education Industrial Investment Fund Management Co. has announced the launch of a Rmb5 billion (US$732.3 million) fund that will focus solely on the education sector. (People's Republic of China) China General Technology (Group) Holding, Ltd. has launched its Environmental Industrial Fund, China's first green industrial fund with an initial size of Rmb2 billion (US$292.8 million). (People's Republic of China) The Guangdong Science and Technology Department has teamed up with a party of investors to set up a Rmb5 billion (US$731.9 million) Green Industrial Investment Fund. (People's Republic of China) Zhongchuan Investment Fund Management Co. announced the first closing of its Rmb20 billion (US$2.9 billion) Tianjin Shipping Industry Investment Fund. This is China's first industrial fund that focuses on the shipping industry. (People's Republic of China)
INVESTMENTS
The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. will purchase US$115 million of convertible debentures issued by Max India Ltd. which is a New Delhi-based conglomerate that focuses on the healthcare and insurance sectors. (India) Tudou.com ('Tudou') has reportedly received US$40 million from its fifth round of financing. Since 2006, Tudou has successfully raised capital from a long list of investors, including Granite Global Ventures, IDG Capital Partners and JAFCO Asia. (People’s Republic of China) BankInvest has recently deployed an additional VND241.5 billion (US$12.9 million) in Vien Dong Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Co. which specialises in the distribution of drugs and healthcare products in Vietnam. DIVESTMENTS
ChrysCapital has sold most of its interest in ING Vysya Bank Ltd. during the past few days before the close of the year and returned approximately an aggregate 1.3 billion rupees (US$27.8 million) to its coffers. (India) |
