Axiom Asia Private Capital Management Services, LP announced the final closing of its second fund at US$950 million that exceeds its original target of US$750 million. It will seek both primary and secondary opportunities in Greater China, India, Southeast Asia, Australia and South Korea. (Pan-Asia) NEWS

International Finance Corporation is seeking to be a cornerstone investor in the US$10 billion China-ASEAN Investment Corporation Fund, which is sponsored by the China Development Bank. The fund will primarily focus on infrastructure investments, such as transportation facilities and public works in the prescribed economic zone. (China/Asean)
CDC Group plc has reportedly committed US$10 million to ShoreCap II, a microfinance fund set up by ShoreCap Exchange Corporation. ShoreCap II focuses on investments in microfinance institutions in Africa and Asia. (Asia and South Africa) FUNDS
Henan Agriculture Synthesis Exploitation Co. has joined hands with CITIC Trust Co. to launch the Rmb4.8 billion (US$703 million) Henan Agricultural Development Industrial Fund. It is the first agricultural fund in China as well as the first industrial fund in Henan province. (People's Republic of China) CITIC Private Equity Funds Management Co., Ltd. announced the final closing of its first industrial fund, Mianyang Technology City Industrial Investment Fund LP ('Mianyang'), at Rmb9 billion (US$1.3 billion). The National Council for Social Security Fund contributed Rmb2 billion to the fund. Mianyang is a 12-year fund that focuses on finance, consumption, raw materials and manufacturing. TPG has increased its holdings in Shriram Retail Holdings Pvt. Ltd. ('Shriram') through a 1.8 billion rupees (US$38.5 million) commitment. Following completion of this capital injection, TPG's stake in Shriram will reach 49%. Separately, TPG has also allocated £21 million (US$33.8 million) to Greenko Group plc, an operator of clean energy projects in India and is listed on the second board of the London Stock Exchange. (India) Sequoia Capital India ('Sequoia') could have committed close to 1 billion rupees (US$21.5 million) through two transactions. It is known to have invested 440 million rupees in Equitas Micro Finance Pvt. Ltd., which provides microfinance services for women and deprived groups. Separately, Sequoia could have also invested in Via, an Indian online travel agency formerly known as FlightRaja. The latter had earlier enlisted NEA-IndoUS Ventures as its investor. (People's Republic of China) India Equity Partners has reportedly taken a 25% stake in IL&FS Education and Technology Services ('IETS') for 1.4 billion rupees (US$30 million), according to domestic reports. IETS is an online education services company. (India) Bain Capital announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Higa Industries Co., Ltd. It will take up a 70% from three existing shareholders, one of which is Daiwa SMBC Capital. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. (Japan)
CVC Capital Partners, through its Asian arm, will participate in the 7.2 trillion rupiahs (US$773.4 million) investment for a 90.76% equity interest in PT Matahari Department Store Tbk, a leading retailer in the country. The latter plans to open more than 150 new stores over the next 10 to 15 years. (Indonesia)
Douban.com has raised US$10 million from Ceyuan Ventures and Trust Bridge Partners. In July 2006, Ceyuan Ventures first invested in douban.com. (People's Republic of China) Legend Capital has invested an undisclosed sum in 21Cake, a Chinese luxury cake maker, according to domestic reports. The transaction details were not disclosed. 21Cake mainly operates in Beijing and Shanghai with a delivery team of more than 200 people. (People's Republic of China) Keytone Ventures has invested an undisclosed amount in Travelzen Ltd. ('Travelzen'), an online travel agent, according to local sources. Travelzen was established in 2007. (People's Republic of China) A consortium of investors, including WI Harper Group and Shenzhen Capital Group Co., Ltd., has invested in Changzhou CTC Technical Fabrics Co., Ltd. for its first round of financing. No further details are available on the investment amount. (People's Republic of China) Everbright Private Equity has led a group of investors, including Fidelity Asia Ventures and Mitsui Ventures, and committed US$65 million to iSoftStone Holdings Ltd. (‘iSoftStone’), which is listed on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. iSoftStone is a provider of business consulting, IT sourcing and business outsourcing services. (People's Republic of China) EDB Investments will invest S$12.6 million (US$8.9 million) in the Singapore-listed CWT Ltd. ('CWT') for a minority position. Established in 1970, CWT's principal businesses comprise of integrated logistics solutions and facilities management services. (Singapore) Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. has reportedly joined a party of local conglomerates in the bid for GS Retail's 14 discount stores and three department stores. The transaction is estimated to command a deal value of 1.2 trillion won to 1.4 trillion won (US$1 billion to US$1.2 billion), according to sources. (South Korea) DIVESTMENTS
RHJ International has sold its interest in Columbia Music Entertainment, Inc. for an estimated ¥3.1 billion (US$34.2 million). The private equity firm first invested in the company in 2001. (Japan) China Hydroelectric Corporation ('China Hydroelectric'), backed by Tsing Capital, made its public debut on the New York Stock Exchange. Tsing Capital did not sell its holdings at China Hydroelectric’s public debut. (People's Republic of China) IFM Investments Ltd., which operates real estate brokerage and mortgage service provider Century 21 China, was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. It counted Goldman Sachs and Avenue Capital Group as its investors. The stock was priced at US$7 per American Depositary Share and ended the first trading day at US$7.3. (People's Republic of China) Unitas Capital ('Unitas') has sold Buy The Way Inc. to Lotte Group and is believed to have raked in a return of around 2.5 times its invested capital.
