Deutsche Bank Launches Fund of Funds Unit

Deutsche Bank is setting up a new private equity fund of funds unit within its Asset Management division following its recent acquisition of Sal. Oppenheim Group. The new entity DB Private Equity will be headed by Mr Christopher Minter. (Germany)




SBI Holdings Could Seek Listing on Hong Kong Bourse

SBI Holdings, Inc. ('SBI'), a Tokyo-based venture capital company, could become the first Japan-based fund management firm that will be listed on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, according to comments made by SBI's chief executive on Bloomberg. (Japan)




Gartmore and Hermes Join Forces in PE

Gartmore Investment Management Ltd. and Hermes Fund Managers Ltd. have combined their private equity fund of funds businesses and formed a new company called Hermes GPE LLP. (United Kingdom)

Guidance Fund Launched in Shanghai

The Shanghai Municipal Government recently launched a Rmb3 billion (US$439.4 million) Shanghai Venture Investment Guidance Fund, which will invest in five venture capital funds in Shanghai. Xi'an Govt Launches Two Aerospace Funds

Xi'an government, through its Xi'an National Civil Aerospace Industrial Base, announced the launch of the Rmb5 billion (US$732.5 million) Xi'an Aerospace New Energy Industrial Fund and Rmb100 million Shaanxi Aerospace Hongtu Venture Capital Industrial Fund. (People's Republic of China)

Jacob Ballas Backs EPC Company

Jacob Ballas Capital India Pvt. Ltd. has made an equity investment of 1.5 billion rupees (US$33.8 million) in SEW Infrastructure Ltd., a diversified engineering, procurement and construction services company with a focus on irrigation and hydropower segments. (India)




CLSA Finances Micro Finance

CLSA Capital Partners has invested US$24 million for a minority stake in Equitas Micro Finance India Pvt. Ltd. ('Equitas'). The microfinance institution was previously invested by Caspian Advisors Pvt. Ltd. and MVA Ventures Ltd. (India)





Matrix Leads in Latest Microfinance Deal

Matrix Partners India has invested 1 billion rupees (US$22.3 million) in Bhartiya Samruddhi Finance Ltd. in the latter's latest round of financing of 1.2 billion rupees. Existing investor Lok Capital LLC has also injected capital into the microfinance company. (India)




Sequoia Capital Employs Data Security

Sequoia Capital India and Indian Angel Network have invested US$5 million in Druva Software, a security software company that develops software for laptops and remote servers. (India)




Bain Increases Holdings in Himadri

Bain Capital, LLC has acquired an extra stake in Himadri Chemicals and Industries Ltd., a coal tar pitch manufacturing company, for 1.6 billion rupees (US$35.7 million). This was completed through a tender offer that took place in March. (India)




Blackstone Commits to Media

The Blackstone Group will invest 2.3 billion rupees (US$50 million) in Jagran Media Network Pvt. Ltd., the holding company of Indian newspaper publisher Jagran Prakashan Ltd., which is listed on the Indian stock exchanges. (India)




Reliance Venture Leads Investment in Tessolve Services

Reliance Venture Asset Management Ltd. has led the latest round of financing of Tessolve Services Pvt. Ltd. ('Tessolve'), along with JAFCO Asia, Qualcomm Ventures and Applied Ventures. The total transaction size was not disclosed. Tessolve is a full-service semiconductor test house. (India)




Unison Purchases Additional Shares in UCOM

Unison Capital, Inc. ('Unison') has acquired additional shares stake in UCOM Corporation from USEN Corporation for ¥5 billion (US$53.9 million). Once the transaction is completed, Unison will become the largest shareholder in the fiber-optic cable network company. (Japan)

IL&FS Transportation Edges up on Debut

IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd., backed by Trikona Trinity Capital PLC, was listed on the Indian bourses. A host of investors including Goldman Sachs and Bessemer Venture Partners had committed capital to the company. (India)





Conveyor Belt Manufacturer Listed on SZSE

Zhejiang Double Arrow Rubber Co., Ltd. ('Double Arrow'), a conveyor belt manufacturer, was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Haitong-Fortis Private Equity Fund Management Co., Ltd. did not dispose any of its holdings at Double Arrow's initial public offering. (People's Republic of China)





Baring Private Equity Asia Pares Down Yingde

Baring Private Equity Asia ('BPEA') has reportedly pared down its holding in Yingde Gases Group Co., Ltd. ('Yingde'), a Shanghai-based industrial gas supplier. BPEA and two other investors have sold an aggregate HK$1.1 billion (US$145 million) worth of shares in Yingde. (People's Republic of China)





Warburg Pincus Sells Stake in Intime

Warburg Pincus is said to have sold a 6% stake in Intime Department Store (Group) Co., Ltd. for over US$100 million. Warburg Pincus made its initial investment in the department store in 2005. (People's Republic of China)
