Foster Rejects Private Equity

Australia's biggest brewer, Foster's Group Ltd., has announced its decision not to accept a cash offer of between A$2.3 billion to A$2.7 billion (US$2.1 billion to US$2.5 billion) from "an international private equity firm" for its wine assets consisting of Treasury Wine Estates. According to other media reports, it is still being wooed by the likes of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and TPG. (Australia)




Stella to Set with Jetset

Stella Travel Services, controlled by CVC Asia Pacific, will merge with ASX-listed Jetset Travelworld Ltd. The enlarged merged unit will have a market capitalisation of A$351 million (US$323 million). (Australia)




PE Players Interested in Waste Management

Archer Capital and Ironbridge Capital Pty. Ltd. have reportedly expressed interest in bidding for WSN Environmental Solutions, the waste management business of the New South Wales government, which is being privatised. (Australia)




Aid for Alinta

TPG Capital, Anchorage Capital and Oaktree Capital Management, L.P have reportedly proposed a debt-to-equity swap and capital injection plan for beleaguered energy firm Alinta Energy which has an A$2.9 billion (US$2.7 billion) debt pile. (Australia)




Reliance and GTL Merger Fails

The proposed 500 billion rupee (US$11 billion) merger of Reliance Infratel Ltd. and GTL Infrastructure Ltd. ('GTL') has been terminated. Reliance Infratel Ltd. is backed by HSBC Principal Investments and New Silk Route Private Equity. (India)

China Huiyuan Juice Group Ltd., backed by SAIF Partners, has reportedly breached loan covenants. Its shares were suspended from trading on Friday, 10th September. (People's Republic of China)

The Future Fund has participated in the €1 billion (US$1.29 billion) fund raising exercise undertaken by Haymarket. Established in 2009, Haymarket is backed by Canada-based Public Sector Pension Investment Board, OMERS Private Equity and TowerBrook Capital Partners, LP. (Offshore)




Temasek Said to Join in Bid for Potash

Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd. has reportedly been invited by Chinese state-owned Sinochem Corp. to join a consortium to bid for Canada's Potash Corp.; there were also reports saying that China Investment Corp. may also participate in bidding for the fertiliser producer. (Offshore)




CDB Sponsors Chengdu Infrastructure Fund

China Development Bank has inked an agreement with the Chengdu government for an investment fund that focuses on urban development and infrastructure development in Chengdu's Longquanyi district. (People's Republic of China)

Japanese Banks Jointly Launch Corporate Turnaround Fund

Development Bank of Japan Inc. has reportedly teamed up with Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. to set up a corporate turnaround fund that aims to invest about ¥100 billion (US$1.19 billion), according to Nikkei. (Japan)

China's largest grains and oilseed importer and exporter, COFCO Ltd. is planning to launch an agricultural fund in China that has a target size of US$1 billion.
